Importance of Art
"Tax dollars should not be wasted on art, music or theater classes in high school. Public high schools should be about training young people to enter the workforce. Period." In short, this statement could not be more wrong. First of all, the workforce is not what it used to be. Years ago, going to work usually meant working in a factory, where you needed to have a basic knowledge of things, followed bells (like in school), and sat down for long periods of time. Nowadays, it is more common for people to make a living out of art. More kids are going to an art institution for their postsecondary education now more than ever, so saying that "tax dollars should not be wasted on art" and "p ublic high schools should be about training young people to enter the workforce" is contradictory. In addition, even if the students taking these art classes do not choose to pursue a career in the arts, tax dollars should not be considered "wasted" on them. Art
I chose the image of the robot because human robots are supposed to be the image of what a "normal" person should be, with familiar features and proper human functions such as movements and cognitive ability. This image contradicts the quote that "there's no such thing as normal", however it works with the quote because we are not robots and the robot is representing "normality", therefore we are not normal. I chose the pale green in the background because I thought it complimented the purple in the robot's head and the word "normal" nicely. It also provided a good contrast for the black lettering. I choose the font I used because it went with the digital theme of the robot, but also because the breaking up of the letters showed abnormality. I rotated the word "normal" on its side and filled it with the image from the robot's heads so it would not be uniform with the other words, thus making it "abnormal".
